Make a Dog Tag Instantly - cheaply!

You just adopted a dog. You should place an ID tag on his collar right away. The first few days before the animal comes to know your home as his home is an especially hazardous time. If he should get out the door or slip is collar he could become lost in an instant. Having some sort of identification on the animal can really help. Someting visible and containing your phone number can be just the help needed to get your dog back.

This may not be pretty, but until you can have a tag made professionally this can be a good way to get something made and placed on your dog right away - and at little cost!

What you need:
  • Tin snips
  • Permanent marking pen - sharpie is best
  • Plastic white measuring spoons - these can be purchased at a dollar store
  • A sandblock or some sand paper
  • A small diameter key ring
What you do:
Take one spoon off the set and with the tin snips cut the spoon part off. You can smooth by sanding or trimming the plastic or nylon edges. I did ours at an angle so the cut end is slightly rounded. Sand - roughen both sides. The write your dog's name and your phone number on both sides. Set aside, don't hadle until the ink is thoroughly dry. Then using the key ring fasten the new "tag" to your dog's collar. This should useful until you can order something online or from your local pet store.
